[Malaysia] Say No To Drug Needles

Say no to free needles!
Abu Omar

Its another presposterous and ridiculous idea from the Health Minister. First, the idea of a privileged hospital wing for paying patients and a welfare section for the “down and outs”. In one desperate move, we have recreated a classic setting for class discrimination and social segregation in public health. Is this a development or a regression in the quality of life? We are moving backwards.

Now, if they have their way, they would like to be in the business of pushing needles to the addicts. Imagine the uproar over it. Surely the addicts themselves are caught by surprise. They’ll be spinning themselves uncontrollably. It is a sign of sheer utter desperation or just another liberal dose of Marina’s antics, ill thought forays into the realm of controversy and unending search for social recognition, otherwise elusive fame.

How sure are they that there will be a reduction in HIV? There surely will be a possibility in an increase in the of usage because needles are free so the addicts only look for the stuff to pump themselves high. If that is not enough, who will distribute it? The doctors, nurses and the health inspectors are too burdened to conduct registers of deserving bona fide addicts and proper techniques for injecting the hypodermics into them . Why won’t the addicts just sell them off for some cash to buy more of the other stuff? The floodgates of abuse shall be opened wide. In one stupendous move, we have condoned drug abuse and have aided and abetted drug pushers and dealers. How criminal and immoral this shall be!

Next, it may come to legalising certain drugs. A joke has it that this will discourage addicts from stealing and theft. There’s even talk of licensing prostitution and some have been hawking the idea of distributing condoms. Another case of if you can’t beat them, join them!

But reasonable and right minded people can never accept this. You prevent harm but you should never escalate the problem by making it more harmful.

Two wrongs do not make a right. Addiction is shocking. HIV is alarming. But the solution has to be abstinence and to combat the social and psychological, human causes of the disease. Never ever give up the fight. Yes, HIV can infect the innocents but the primary causes come from the business of illicit drugs and illegitimate relationships. The liberals will be disgusted by this but they have to come to terms with morality because immorality is the cause and continuation of these tragic diseases.
